A strong mind & body for strong demands

A barre-goer since January 2018, she remembers being hooked and shocked after attending her first class at Duxton with our Barre teacher and trainer, Leandra. Jan’s go-to classes are Yobarre and Burn and Stretch, both of which push her to the point of muscle fatigue while involving multiple planes of movement, balance, and strength. “What I love most is the mindfulness-centric way we move. For those who are tense from work or stress, these classes can really benefit them,” Jan explains.

Barre serves as Jan’s personal escape, allowing her to disconnect and focus entirely on herself. In her high-energy job, she’s often required to give a lot to others, so barre offers her the freedom to let go and embrace different sides of herself. “It’s like a magic pill,” she says. “I can push hard, but I can also be supple, feminine, or even look silly.” This space allows Jan to move freely without judgment, offering a sense of relief and joy that helps her recharge both physically and emotionally.

Jan has also formed many meaningful friendships at Lab, finding a positive source of support through her practice. “Barre is that one constant friend that’s always there for me. It’s where I go to ground myself, feel empowered, and be present.” She’s built lasting connections with fellow members, with some becoming friends. “From mat buddies to real-life friends, what’s better for the soul than a good friend? Lab has helped me stay at my best, even on days when I feel far from my best.”
